“Captain Miller,” a 2024 Tamil-language epic action adventure film, is directed by Arun Matheswaran and produced by Sathya Jyothi Films. The movie, the first installment of a planned trilogy, stars Dhanush in the lead role, supported by Shiva Rajkumar, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Aditi Balan, Sundeep Kishan, Edward Sonnenblick, and John Kokken. Set in the 1930s, during the British Raj, the storyline revolves around a former British Army soldier striving to protect his home village from destruction by the British Army.
Arun penned the script in 2018, with Sathya Jyothi Films tentatively set to produce. The project gained momentum in 2019 and was officially announced in July 2022, initially titled D47 (Dhanush’s 47th film in a lead role). Principal photography took place from September 2022 to late 2023 in locations like Chennai, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi. G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the music, Siddhartha Nuni handled cinematography, and Nagooran Ramachandran managed the editing.
“Captain Miller” hit screens globally on January 12, 2024, during the Pongal week, in both standard and IMAX formats. Garnering positive reviews from critics, the film achieved commercial success, grossing over ₹104.79 crore (US$13 million).
