“The Fall Guy” (2024), directed by David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce, is an action comedy film based loosely on the 1980s TV series of the same name. The plot centers on Colt Seavers, portrayed by Ryan Gosling, a former Hollywood stuntman who becomes entangled in a dangerous conspiracy while working on an action film directed by his ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno, played by Emily Blunt. The film also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Tom Ryder, the film’s lead actor, and features performances by Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu, and Winston Duke. Premiering at SXSW on March 12, 2024, and released in the United States on May 3 by Universal Pictures, “The Fall Guy” received generally positive reviews from critics but underperformed at the box office, grossing $174 million against a production budget of $125–150 million.

The film’s narrative kicks off with Colt Seavers abandoning his stunt career and his relationship with Jody after a severe accident. When Colt is recruited by Gail Meyer, the film’s producer, to find the missing Tom Ryder to prevent the cancellation of Jody’s overbudget film “Metalstorm,” he reluctantly agrees. Colt’s quest takes him through a series of dangerous encounters, including a hallucinogenic drug trip and a violent altercation with a drug dealer’s henchmen. As Colt delves deeper, he discovers Tom’s involvement in a murder and a plot by Gail to frame him using deepfake technology. The tension escalates with a thrilling chase and Colt’s subsequent escape, leading to a climactic confrontation on the “Metalstorm” set.

In the film’s finale, Colt and Jody manage to expose Tom and Gail’s crimes during a high-stakes stunt sequence. The duo’s efforts culminate in a dramatic helicopter crash, with Colt securing evidence that exonerates him and brings the villains to justice. The successful premiere of “Metalstorm” at San Diego Comic-Con, with Jason Momoa taking over as the new lead, symbolizes a new beginning for Jody’s directorial career and Colt’s redemption. The movie ends on a high note with Colt and Jody rekindling their relationship, while a mid-credits scene humorously reveals Tom and Gail’s ill-fated escape attempt, featuring cameos from Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, paying homage to the original TV series.
