“Saaho,” a 2019 Indian action thriller directed by Sujeeth and produced by UV Creations and T-Series, features Prabhas in the lead role, marking his Hindi film debut, and Shraddha Kapoor’s Telugu film debut. The film, shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, also stars notable actors like Chunky Pandey, Jackie Shroff, and Neil Nitin Mukesh. The plot revolves around two undercover officers investigating a ₹2,000 crore theft, which leads them to a gang war and the death of a prominent business tycoon. The film’s extensive shooting locations included India, the UAE, Romania, and Austria, with its soundtrack composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Guru Randhawa, Badshah, and Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, and a musical score by Ghibran.
Upon its release on August 30, 2019, “Saaho” received mixed-to-negative reviews. While critics praised the cast performances, action sequences, VFX, and cinematography, they criticized the script, direction, and runtime. Despite the varied critical reception, the film grossed between ₹419 crore and ₹439 crore worldwide against a ₹350 crore budget. The Telugu version was an above-average grosser, while the Hindi version achieved significant commercial success, making it the highest-grossing South Indian film of 2019.
The film’s narrative reveals that Devaraj, aspiring to control Waaji City, orchestrates the murder of Narantak Roy. Saaho, the real Ashok Chakravarthy, leads a covert operation against Devaraj. Eventually, Saaho, revealed to be Roy’s biological son Siddhanth Nandan Saaho, avenges his father’s death and claims leadership of the Roy Group. The story concludes with Saaho and Amritha reuniting in Austria, hinting at ongoing dangers as Saaho remains vigilant against potential threats.
