Ooru Peru Bhairavakona: An Overview

Plot
Basava, a stunt double in films, is in desperate need of money and steals the bride’s jewelry from a wedding, accompanied by his friend John. While escaping from the police, they encounter Agraharam Geetha, who has been in an accident. They decide to help Geetha and take her along in their car, eventually arriving at a mysterious place called Bhairavakona. In Bhairavakona, they meet Dr. Narappa, who treats Geetha. The group experiences strange occurrences, leading to the unraveling of several mysteries. What are these strange events? What compelled Basava to steal the jewelry? Who is Bhoomi, and what is her connection to Basava? The story revolves around these questions, with the enigma of Bhairavakona at its core.

Production
The film was officially launched with a Muhurtham pooja on 19 September 2021 in Hyderabad. The first glimpse and title were unveiled on 7 May 2022, coinciding with Sundeep Kishan’s birthday. Principal photography wrapped up on 23 June 2023, marking the end of the production phase.

Soundtrack
The soundtrack and film score were composed by Shekar Chandra, with music rights acquired by Aditya Music. The first track, “Nijame Ne Chebutunna”, was released on 31 March 2023, followed by “Humma Humma” on 27 December 2023. The third track, “Haromhara”, was released on 11 February 2024. The remaining singles, “Kill The Devil” and “Idi Bhairavakona”, were released as part of a jukebox on 15 February 2024.

Release
Initially scheduled for release on 9 February 2024, the film’s release was postponed to 16 February 2024, with premiere shows starting on 14 February 2024. The rescheduling was due to a preference for a solo release of another film, “Eagle.” “Ooru Peru Bhairavakona” premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 8 March 2024.

Reception
The Hindu commented that the film “has interesting ideas that do not translate into an engrossing fantasy drama.” Neeshita Nyayapati of Hindustan Times noted that “Ooru Peru Bhairavakona is a popcorn watch that is not as complex as it feels initially. It helps that the lead cast perform their roles well, ably aided by Raj Thota’s cinematography.”
