Released theatrically on 15 August 2024, coinciding with Indian Independence Day, “Double iSmart” received predominantly negative reviews from critics.

Plot Summary

The narrative centers around Big Bull, a notorious assassin seeking immortality. To achieve his goal, he decides to transfer his memories to “iSmart” Shankar, who already carries the memories of another individual. This sets the stage for an intense and action-packed confrontation between Shankar and Big Bull, with high stakes and a blend of science fiction and thriller elements.

Production Details

The film was officially announced on 14 May 2023 by the lead actor Ram Pothineni and director Puri Jagannadh. The production commenced with a grand launch in Hyderabad, followed by a first shooting schedule that wrapped up on 31 July 2023. The film’s production journey included shoots in Mumbai and Thailand, with significant delays due to financial constraints. Despite these challenges, the film’s climax was shot on a massive set worth ₹8 crore, concluding principal photography on 5 July 2024.

Music and Soundtrack

The music for “Double iSmart” was composed by Mani Sharma, with the audio rights acquired by Aditya Music. The soundtrack includes singles like “SteppaMaar,” “Maar Muntha Chod Chinta,” “Kya Lafda,” and “Big Bull,” released between July and August 2024.

Release and Distribution

Initially slated for a 8 March 2024 release, the film was postponed to 15 August 2024. It received an A certification from the Central Board of Film Certification due to its violent content and strong language. The distribution rights were secured by Primeshow Entertainment and Mythri Movie Makers, with Sakthi Film Factory acquiring the rights for Tamil Nadu. The digital streaming rights were sold to Amazon Prime Video for ₹33 crore, and the satellite rights were picked up by Zee Telugu and Zee Cinemalu.

Critical Reception

“Double iSmart” was met with negative reviews from critics. BVS Prakash of Deccan Chronicle rated the film 2/5 stars, criticizing its over-the-top narrative and hypothetical themes. Sashidhar Adivi of Times Now also gave it a 2/5 rating, describing it as a “Tedious Affair.” Sowmya Rajendran of The News Minute offered a harsher critique, rating the film 1/5 stars and calling it “double the torture.” Similarly, Neeshita Nyayapati of Hindustan Times criticized the film’s lack of a coherent story, focusing more on the protagonist’s likability than the plot itself.
