Overview
Gargi is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language legal drama directed and co-written by Gautham Ramachandran and produced by Blacky, Genie & My Left Foot Productions. Plot
Gargi is a dedicated school teacher from a struggling family, including her father Brahmanandam, a security guard; her mother, who sells homemade rice batter; and her younger sister Akshara. Their lives are turned upside down when Brahmanandam is accused, alongside four others, of assaulting a child. Gargi is determined to prove her father’s innocence, given his past role as her protector. Despite facing public scorn and abandonment by a family friend, Gargi’s family finds an unlikely ally in Indrans Kaliaperumal, a low-profile lawyer who agrees to take their case. Through his investigation, Indrans discovers that the victim’s testimony was compromised due to incorrect medication. However, further revelations, including an admission from Brahmanandam’s colleague about the true events, lead Gargi to question her father’s integrity. Ultimately, it is revealed that Brahmanandam is indeed guilty, leading to his conviction. The film concludes with Gargi and her family moving on, having reconciled with the victim and her family.
Production
Directed by Gautham Ramachandran, known for Richie (2017), Gargi initially had Jyothika cast in the lead role, but she was replaced by Sai Pallavi. The film was announced on 9 May 2022, with a special glimpse released by the makers. The film’s production involved Aishwarya Lekshmi and Director Gautam Ramachandran as additional producers.
Music
The soundtrack for Gargi is composed by Govind Vasantha, with lyrics written by Karthik Netha. Released on 13 July 2022, the music album spans both Tamil and Telugu versions.

Gargi was released theatrically worldwide on 15 July 2022. Post-theatrical rights were acquired by SonyLIV, while satellite rights were sold to Kalaignar TV.
