Overview
Bhimaa is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language fantasy action thriller directed by A. Harsha and produced by K. K. Radhamohan. The film features Gopichand in a dual role alongside Priya Bhavani Shankar, Malvika Sharma, and several other notable actors. The film’s release coincided with Maha Shivaratri on 8 March 2024, but despite its hype, it received negative reviews and failed at the box office. The film revolves around the protagonist, Bhimaa, and his twin brother, Ramaa, as they navigate a series of events involving illegal experiments and revenge.
Plot
The story follows SI Bhimaa, who gets transferred to Mahendragiri, a town under the control of gangsters. While there, he crosses paths with Vidya, a school teacher, and Ravindra Varma, an Ayurvedic practitioner involved in illegal experiments. Bhimaa uncovers a sinister operation where Ravindra Varma is using children for experiments to invent Sanjeevini, a plant capable of reviving the dead. Bhimaa tries to stop him, but Ravindra Varma kills him, Vidya, and the children. Bhimaa’s twin brother, Ramaa, a temple priest, then takes it upon himself to avenge the deaths, with Bhimaa’s spirit entering Ramaa’s body to finally confront and kill Ravindra Varma.
Cast
The film stars Gopichand in a dual role as Bhimaa and Ramaa. The leading ladies of the film are Priya Bhavani Shankar and Malvika Sharma. The supporting cast includes veteran actors like Nassar, Naresh, and Rohini, along with comic relief provided by Vennela Kishore and Chammak Chandra.
Music
Ravi Basrur composed the film’s music and background score. Three singles were released to promote the film: “Yedo Yedo Maaya” on 9 February, “Gaali Soundullo” on 21 February, and the final single, “Rage of Bhimaa” on 7 March, just before the film’s release.
Release and Reception
Bhimaa was released in theaters on 8 March 2024 to negative reviews from critics. Despite the high expectations due to its star cast and the festive timing of Maha Shivaratri, the film did not perform well commercially. It premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 25 April 2024, offering a second chance for viewers to catch the film at home.
