S. J. Sinu, previously known for Djibouti (2021) and Theru (2023), marked his Tamil directorial debut with this film. The title, Petta Rap, inspired by the iconic song from Prabhu Deva’s 1994 film Kadhalan (composed by A. R. Soundtrack

Critical Reception

The film received mixed to negative reviews from critics. Narayani M of Cinema Express rated it 1.5/5, criticizing its illogical narrative detours that added little value to the story. Thinkal Menon of Times of India gave it 2/5 stars, highlighting its over-reliance on Prabhu Deva’s dance skills and nostalgia from Kadhalan, deeming the story and screenplay unengaging.

While appreciating the effort to evoke nostalgia through references to Kadhalan and Prabhu Deva’s dance sequences, he pointed out the unengaging screenplay and mediocre storytelling, stating, “Petta Rap leaves you wondering how its makers depended only on Prabhu Deva’s dance and reference to Kadhalan to pull off a mediocre story and unengaging screenplay.”


Box Office

Despite the lukewarm reviews, the film managed to attract a section of the audience due to its nostalgic factor, Prabhu Deva’s performances, and vibrant music. The exact box office figures are yet to be disclosed, but initial reports suggest a moderate opening.
