Plot Summary

The narrative follows investigations undertaken by the Kochi cyber cell over a year and a half, assisted by two engineering graduates, Antony George and Vinay Dasan. They tackle cases involving film piracy, job fraud, and murder. Despite their crucial contributions, the duo ends up not being permanently hired, highlighting the struggles of temporary staff who work hard but receive little recognition or financial benefits.
Director and Screenplay
Tharun Moorthy, formerly an assistant professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the College of Engineering Kidangoor, transitioned into filmmaking with “Operation Java.” The screenplay, based on real-life cases, was inspired by screenwriter John Paul Puthusery, who encouraged Moorthy to create a feature film after seeing his short film. The story spans from 2015 to 2017 and is described by Moorthy as an investigative thriller.
Production Details
Principal photography for the film took place in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Vaikom, and Tamil Nadu, with a location in Kakkanad serving as the police station. Cinematography was handled by Faiz Siddik. Filming concluded in early March 2020, and dubbing was completed in June 2020 at a studio in Kochi.
Home Media and Reception
Zee Keralam channel and ZEE5 OTT platform acquired the satellite and digital rights to “Operation Java.” The film premiered on 15 May on Zee Keralam and ZEE5. Baradwaj Rangan of Film Companion South praised the film, calling it a beautiful blend of romance, practicality, and a critique of the establishment’s cruelty.
